I have mentioned Project Life before via Instagram and Facebook, but I know most of you that read my blog are not scrapbookers, or you once were but just don't have the time anymore.
At the end of 2008, Creating Keepsakes was selling a scrapbook kit titled "Project 365" designed by Becky Higgins. I didn't know a whole lot about it except for what the magazine had to say about it. My first reaction was that there was no way I could take a photo every single day for 2009. Sounded crazy to me! But as the thought mingled in my brain and I saw photos of the kit I began to have a change of heart. I wasn't actually doing much scrapbooking for myself and "Project 365" was designed in an easy way to capture the everyday moments, moments that usually didn't end up on a "traditional" scrapbook page.
The morning it went on sale I was at my parent's computer ready to purchase. The site was overloaded with people trying to buy the kit. I don't know how many times I would almost get to submit payment just to have to start all over again. I was exhausted (I think it may have been New Year's Eve the evening before) and tempted to go back to bed and try later in the day. But something caused me to keep trying and somehow I was able to grab two kits, one for my mom and one for me. Turns out that the kits sold out in record time and there were many unhappy with Creating Keepsakes for not being prepared. I don't think they realized how popular this idea was going to be. I felt so blessed that I listened to the prompting and didn't go back to bed.
Becky Higgins then quit working for Creating Keepsakes and started her own company. Everyone was on pins and needles wondering if she was going to come out with a new kit. People wanted to keep documenting their lives using her system. She did indeed come out with a kit titled "Project Life" (it is now referred to as the Cherry Edition). This time she made the kit so that you could do a photo a day, capture a week at a glance or a month or even do it just by events in your life. It was more versatile. I believe the first batch sold out, and she had to order a second one.
Since then the concept & products of Project Life have grown by leaps and bounds. Becky Higgins has partnered up with American Crafts (huge scrapbooking manufacturing company) so that Project Life will be available for retailers to sell (starting next month). Project Life just recently made its TV debut on HSN, where two editions were available to buy at a special price, and they went like hotcakes. Other scrapbooking companies are now following the trend and are providing cards/page protectors/cardstock, etc. that you can either mix with Project Life products or use on your own.
The concept is genius and is one that anyone at any age can do. I am in my fifth year of doing Project Life. 2009, 2010 and 2011 I took the photo a day approach. Last year is still in the works, but I am taking the weekly approach. I knew I wouldn't be picking my camera up as often as I struggled with depression and anxiety. 2012 also includes inserts of memorabilia and extra photos. It looks like it will take up four scrapbook albums while the first three years only took up one each. This year I am back to doing a photo a day with the idea that it would leave me time to work on 2012. Well I loved including inserts so much that I'm doing that again this year and getting a little more creative with the spreads. I'm not scrapbooking "traditionally" yet, so this gives me the perfect creative outlet.
There is a cute short video on Becky Higgins's blog that visually shows what Project Life is all about. If you are at all curious, I definitely recommend watching it. You can find it here.
Project Life has many editions (seven new ones coming out in May) and is also available digitally and on Shutterfly. I am hooked and can't imagine documenting my life without it. I wish that it existed back when I first got married so that I could have the past seven years documented this way.
Project Life Editions I have used:
2009: Project 365 (no longer available)
2010: The Cherry Edition
2011: The Amber Edition
2012: The Cobalt Edition
2013: The Clementine Edition
P.S. I also own Baby for Her Edition (to document my baby years), The Olive Edition (hopefully to document about my grandparents), The Wellington Childhood Mini Kit (document missionary experience), The Bridgeport Childhood Mini Kit (to document our time with Bryce), The Mayfield Childhood Mini Kit (to document our time with Josalyn), The Blush Edition (just because it is my second favorite of the new ones that will be available and I couldn't pass up the good price on HSN), various page protectors, 12x12 envelopes, 6x12 envelopes, 9 Mini Albums, grid cards, patterned paper, cardstock, etc. As you can see I have a weakness for all things Project Life. I'm planning on owning all the editions I don't buy in physical format digitally (ummm...have already purchased a lot). Next on my list...The Honey Edition!
P.S.S. I am hoping to share Project Life 2013 pages here on my blog. I thought before I do I would share a little more information so that you know exactly what it is I'm sharing. :o)

Creative Endeavors
Even amidst the depression and anxiety I was able to get a couple of creative projects done for Sketch Support. Yay!
A couple of weeks later was Add-On week. That sketch caught my eye as well and my creative mind started turning.
It is very similar to the card sketch and I love to handstitich. I knew that this would look great on a gift bag and so I got to work. I love how it turned out and actually found the energy to make two!
First off, at the beginning of February was card week. I loved the sketch and thought that it would make the perfect Valentine's Day Card. My goal was to make 16 of them! A little crazy? I would say so! Especially considering my mental state. I only completed two of them, but I plan on turning the others into thank you cards.

Gobble Gobble
Last year was the first year that I made place cards for our Thanksgiving table. I made these pumpkins for each person. They took me quite awhile to finish them even with help. I was thinking that we would just reuse them this year since the end of November was quite busy but of course I just had to add more to my plate. :o)
Two weeks ago it was an add-on sketch over at Sketch Support. The sketch is of a leaf but I was having a hard time figuring out how to use it. I guess my mom suggested that I turn it into a turkey feather though somehow I didn't hear her. A few minutes later I thought it would make the perfect turkey feather.

I ended up making ten of these turkeys. I actually finished them just minutes before we sat down to eat our Thanksgiving meal. I used black letter stickers to add names to the fronts of the turkeys. They turned out quite cute! I've been told that I need to make either pilgrims or Indians for next year. We shall see.

The King & Us
It is two-page sketch week at Sketch Support. And my layout just went up yesterday and I'm already blogging about it! Yay! ;)
These pictures were taken in 2009 when Kari and I went to see New In Town for the second time. We loved it so much and wanted to share it with our moms and so we went a second time. This statue of Elvis can be found in front of the Battle Ground movie theater. I'm always looking for photo opportunities and who wouldn't want to pose with the King of Rock & Roll. :)
I had so much fun with this sketch. I have a feeling this will be one that I will use again and again. That is if I find the time. One thing I love about this sketch is how you can use so many different patterns on it. Trying to figure out which patterns I should use and which ones should be next to each other took me forever! I'm so slow. (To see the layout in more detail just click on the photo.)

Happy Birthday
Last week was two-page week on Sketch Support. I would have blogged about it sooner but I was without the internet for a few days. I survived but boy was it annoying. :)
I really love this sketch! I seem to have a weakness for banners lately. They are so much fun! My take on this sketch was also part of a product challenge. I was sent a group of scrapbook supplies that I was challenged to use. Here is my take:
These pictures are from Tom's last birthday. I love trying to capture photos of someone blowing out their candles. I'm pretty happy with how these photos turned out. Tom's birthday is just around the corner. It will be nice to have him be just as old as I am. ;)

My Mind's Eye September Newsletter
My Mind's Eye sends out a newsletter each month. They typically showcase one of their newer paper lines. The design team shares layouts, cards, home decor ideas, etc. I have been getting them for the last few months and I really enjoy all of the inspiration.
I was asked to take the one-page sketch that was shared and turn it into a card and a two-page layout. At first I thought it would be a piece of cake because of all the projects I've been doing for Sketch Support. I take sketches almost weekly and manipulate them for my different projects. Well I really struggled with the layout because Sketch Support has spoiled me! Allison's sketches list all of the dimensions and most other sketches do not. So I finally had to ask for Tom's help to figure out what sizes every part of the layout should be to make it work. So THANKFUL for Tom and his support of my crazy hobby! :) He also helped me write up the instructions to make the card and layout.
This card was much easier to put together than the layout. As you can see I used the witch again. :) I mailed this card to my sister, Brittany, earlier this month. She loves the witch too! So she is being enjoyed all month long by her.
If you are interested in seeing the newsletter let me know and I will send it to you via email.

These pictures are from last Halloween. Like I mentioned in the post below we make sure to carve a pumpkin every year. I guess that this would be pumpkin #6. :) We used a pattern from a book though I'm thinking this year we should come up with our own deisgn.

My Style
As many of you know I was the guest designer for the month of September for My Mind's Eye. I had so much fun and really enjoyed working with all of their scrapbook goodies! I will always be a BIG fan of MME. They even sent me a bouquet of flowers to thank me for my time and talent. How nice was that?!
My last blog post that was supposed to go up on their blog at the end of September was supposed to be titled Melissa's Style. I share a couple of projects and talk about what I think my scrapbooking style consists of. Well my blog post didn't go up as scheduled because of some crazy mishaps and so this past Friday it was featured. :)
For both of my projects I used My Mind's Eye Halloween paper line Mischievous. Love it! I think the witch is so cute! Couldn't help but use her a couple of times.
This is a wooden sign that I put together. When I saw the vinyl saying I knew it would go so well with the witch. This was pretty easy to put together and I even made the broom. I definitely need some more Halloween decorations.
I've noticed these wooden coffins over the years and when I was at Ben Franklin Crafts looking for ideas I knew this was the year to buy one. Inside I am keeping a mini scrapbook that lists our Halloween traditions. I am sorry to say that we don't have too many. We always carve a pumpkin and the last couple of years we have bought the jack-o-lantern Papa Murphy's pizza. That is it!
What are some of your favorite October / Halloween traditions that you keep?

It's Your Day
Last week was two-page sketch on Sketch Support. I just love working with the two-page sketches and I loved this one!
I followed this sketch exactly except that I did not use the heart embellishments. Love the hearts but they didn't work with my birthday theme. :)

Bryce turned 5 this past June and invited Tom and I to his birthday party months in advance. As the day drew closer I wasn't sure if he would really care if we were there or not. I helped Paige with a few of the preparations while watching the kids and could tell that he had a fun dinosaur birthday planned.
Tom and I were planning on heading to WA before his party and Paige said we were welcome to come to his party but not to feel like we had to. Well I decided I should see what Bryce thought. I started to tell him that Tom and I were going to go visit my parents and thinking of leaving before his party. He immediately teared up and wanted to know if we would make it to his party. Needless to say we headed up to WA later than we planned. :)
Bryce had a very fun party with tons of friends to enjoy it with. We didn't interact a lot with Bryce but at least he knew we were there. We ended up helping out with Jos and making some of the other kids we knew there feel comfortable. Tom and I enjoy any chance we get to spend with such cute kids!

Word of the Month
One of my assignments for My Mind's Eye was to pick a word that described my month and create a layout about it. I had the hardest time picking a word. This month has been filled with sickness, stress, scrapbooking, and work. Nothing overly exciting to scrapbook about. When I looked through the photos I have taken this month these ones caught my eye.
I got to spend quite a few days with these two cuties this month. They have some big changes happening in their life and even though they are too young to fully grasp the changes coming their way they have been troopers. In the photos above Josalyn was shedding some baby tears and Bryce immediately ran off and brought her back her binky. He knows just what brings her comfort. I can think of many times when he has brought her binky, blanket and Meow (stuffed cat) to her when she was sad or upset. Josalyn also comforts Bryce when he is sad or upset. I love it when she gives him a hug for no apparent reason. So cute!
They are both great examples to me of relying on those you love. So my word for the month is together. They have been there for each other and it reminds me that I need to make sure that I'm there for those that I love and care about.

Time with Josalyn
This week is one-page sketch week at Sketch Support. It really is such a fun sketch and the Creative Team has made some great layouts based off of it. If you would like a copy of this sketch head over to Sketch Support to print it out.
Here is my take:
"Time with Josalyn"
Supply List - Patterned Paper: Heidi Grace Designs, KI Memories, American Crafts, Little Yellow Bicycle; Letter Stickers: My Mind's Eye and Heidi Grace Designs; Journaling Spot: My Mind's Eye; Border Punch: Fiskars; Ribbon: American Crafts; Floss: DMC; Pearls: Queen & Co.; Pop Dots: EK Success; Other: Wooden Skewers
These photos were taken almost a year ago. It was just my second day watching the kids and at the time I didn't know that it would soon be something that I would be doing every week. My friend Ashley was their babysitter but she was sick so I thought I would help her out and watch the kids for her. I guess you could say that I pretty much stole her job. Paige pretty much offered me the job before I even watched the kids once. I told her she would have to work things out with Ashley first. Ashley is not only a friend but I'm her first counselor in the Primary Presidency in our ward. I definitely didn't want to jeopardize our friendship or working relationship.

Well Paige talked to Ashley and then she officially offered me the job. If I had been Ashley I would not have been happy! Ashley was very understanding. She had just found out that she was expecting her second child and felt that this was what Heavenly Father wanted for her at that time. Bless Ashley's heart!
I love it when Heavenly Father sends us blessings that he knows we need before we even know that we need them. I wasn't looking for a job. I was really nervous about just watching the kids for two days for Ashley. This experience has really helped to increase my faith in that Heavenly Father does really know what is best for us. It has been nice to earn some extra money but even more than that I have been greatly blessed to spend time with Bryce and Josalyn. This experience has also reminded me that even when my time with them ends at the end of the year that Heavenly Father has other wonderful blessings in store for me.

Forever & A Day
Earlier this month I participated in the 3 products / 2 ways challenge over on the My Mind's Eye blog. Jana Eubank and I had to use the same three products on our layouts along with anything else we wanted to use. I am the one who actually chose the three products so I guess it was more of a challenge for Jana than for me. Though I did have a hard time choosing three different products from three different collections that I wanted to use. :)
I have been wanting to scrapbook this photo of my grandparents for some time. I actually bought patterned paper that I wanted to use quite awhile ago but when I saw the Lost & Found 2 "Sunshine" collection I knew that it was the perfect match!
I have to say that this is probably one of my favorite layouts of all time. I had so much fun putting it together. When I scrapbook I don't think just about paper, adhesive, embellishments, etc. but what memories I want to preserve. The whole time I was working on this layout I was thinking about when my grandparents paid my parents a visit for two weeks and I joined in on the fun. This photo was taken by my dad during that visit.
Memories that came to mind while working on this layout:
- I was a little nervous about seeing my grandpa when we first picked up my grandparents from the airport. It was my first time to see him knowing that he wouldn't remember who I was. Grandpa came right up to me and gave me a great big hug. He had been told that I was family and that was good enough for him.
- Grandpa and I playing cowboys and Indians. He would shoot me and I would fall to the floor. It always cracked him up. I ended up with a lot of bruises.
- Watching the salmon jump up the falls. It was beautiful and amazing seeing some of the salmon trying over and over again until they made it.
- Grandpa flirting with me all of the time. Ha ha ha!
- Grandpa flirting with the cross country girls running through the park. He actually whistled at them.
- Seeing my grandparents as much in love as ever. Even through all the trials that bad health and memory loss brings.

Cherish Banner
A little over a year ago I created my very first banner for a design team that I was a part of. It was quite the challenge for me, but I loved how it turned out. The sad part was that I had to send it off in the mail never to see it again. I made a promise to myself then that I would make a banner for myself to display in my apartment. I knew right where I would hang it too.
When the original Lost & Found collection came out I was in heaven! I started to collect the Union Square line knowing that it would work perfectly for my banner. My kitchen & dining area is made up of the color palette red, black & white. I gathered all the products I wanted to use and set them aside knowing that I would start to work on my banner soon. Well months have gone by and finally my banner is complete! It feels so good to have it done and hanging up for me to enjoy.

Happy Birthday Sawyer!
Sawyer turned one on July 6th. Hard to believe that he is that old now! Christina stayed with Tom and I for a week in May and then spent another month with my parents in Battle Ground. Tom and I were able to go up to BG and stay for a week to hang out with Christing and Sawyer some more. We decided to celebrate Sawyer's birthday a little early and throw a cake smash party. My cousin is a professional photographer and so I got a lot of the ideas from some photos she took of her daughter's cake smash.
When I saw this two-page sketch I knew that it would be perfect to capture my favorite photos that my dad took of Sawyer and his first cake. I love how it has a focal photo and then tons more photos.
Variation #2 - I omitted the brackets on the embellishment squares. My paper strips take up quite a bit of room so the brackets would have been lost.
Variation #3 - I stitched around the large bracket on the left side of the page. I think it adds some subtle definition.

Blog Challenge #27 @ My Mind's Eye
I found out Thursday night what assignments I would need to complete this month for My Mind's Eye. The first two were to use the sketches provided and create a layout and a card. Doesn't sound too hard right? Well then I saw that the deadline was yesterday (Sunday)! I am not a quick crafter by any means and so I started to feel a little stressed out. Plus I was also in charge of Sharing Time (teaching all the kids at church) yesterday. My anxiety levels haven't been that high in years! But I focused, worked hard and conquered!
The theme for the card is Friends. I completed it first since it didn't need as much planning as the layout. It was so much fun to go through the big box of goodies My Mind's Eye sent me trying to decide which products I should use. It felt like Christmas! Go here to see the sketch and what the other team members created.
The theme for the layout is Back to ____. I really really really struggled with this layout. I was asking everyone to fill in the blank to give me ideas for what topic my layout should cover. My first thought was Back to School but we don't have any kids and Tom doesn't start school for a couple more weeks. It was constantly on my mind and I didn't figure out what I wanted to do until Saturday morning.
I have been watching the White kids for almost a year now. I decided to do my layout about Josalyn and some of the things she has taught me this past year. I had a lot more journaling written out but I didn't have room for it all. Boy am I going to miss her when she moves! I'm trying my best to make the most of the time we have left together. Go here to see the sketch and other examples.

Every Moment With You is a Gift
It feels like it has been forever since I've shared a project from Sketch Support. Last week we featured some of the reader's projects for the fifth week of the month. It is fun to see how different people use the sketches.
This week is card week over at Sketch Support. It is one of my favorite card sketches that Allison Davis has created. Could be used for so many different occasions. I know I will be using this sketch again in the future.
I stayed pretty true to this sketch. I followed the measurements pretty closely since I just loved how it looked! My main variation is that I used butterflies instead of hearts. Now I just have to decide who to mail this card to. Anyone needing some loving snail mail? :)

When I first saw this sketch butterflies came to mind. I LOVE butterflies. :) I originally was going to use my punches but when I saw these cardstock stickers by My Mind's Eye I knew that I wanted to use them on this card. Plus it was a good excuse to buy some new goodies.

Lunch In Astoria
Last week was one-page sketch week at Sketch Support. I made the layout in the blog post below using it. Many of the Creative Team Members take the one-page sketches and turn them into two-page layouts. I decided to give it a try with this sketch.
While Tom and I were in WA earlier this month we took a trip to the beach with my family. My good friend Kari told us about the Bowpicker and we thought it would be the perfect place to get some lunch. This little boat was just sitting in a parking lot in Astoria. I thought the fish and chips were delicious. It was quite the dining experience. I'm glad that I've already captured this memory on a scrapbook page.

It is one-page week over @ Sketch Support. I love this sketch and I know that I will use it again! Head over the to site to download your own copy. :)

In many ways I stuck with the overall feel of this sketch and made a few variations to fit with what I wanted.
I omitted the heart embellishments. I wanted to keep my layout simple and felt that the hearts (or any other embellishment) would be distracting.

I also didn't use the flags for my title. I did keep with the different strips of paper but used different sizes and added a portion of a die cut paper to add the lacy like scallop.
One thing I love about this layout is that I used oldies but goodies that I already had in my scrapbooking stash. Allison's sketches are a great way to use what you already have on hand!

Ad-On Sketch @ Sketch Support
I am loving this month's ad-on sketch over @ Sketch Support! It seems fitting since my birthday is at the end of this month. :) I decided to think outside the box and make a party hat! I found a template here by jones design company. They also give a nice tutorial. Here is my take:

Two Page Week @ Sketch Support
I prefer to scrapbook two page layouts. It is a wonderful way to scrapbook more pictures and be able to cover a day or an event with just two pages. I get a lot more scrapbooked this way.
When I saw the sketch this week I was so excited! Love it! Make sure to visit Sketch Support and see all the wonderful ways the Creative Team has used this sketch. I know that I'm inspired!
Variation 2 - I loved the idea of the sun on the layout and thought this would be the perfect page for the die cut sun I've had in my stash for a year. I love how it turned out.
Variation 3 - I was short on pictures so decided to dedicate one of the spaces for a 3x3 photo into a place to write my journaling.
Variation 4 - I decided to add clouds to the right side of my sketch. I really struggled with what to put there instead of the big waves.
Variation 5 - I added more fish. They were just too fun and couldn't help but add a couple more.

I was hoping to get this assignment done before leaving town (over a week ago) but something important came up and I put off finishing it. I actually didn't finish it till last Sunday night. I had to take pictures at night so they don't look too great on the Sketch Support site, but once I got back home I took better pictures to post here.

It is Card Week over on the Sketch Support website. I have loved seeing what the creative team members have created so far with this sketch:
I believe that this is the first time I have used one of Allison's card sketches. I just don't make cards that often. I would much rather put the time into a layout. This card sketch is a fun one! I stuck with the size of the card (6"x6") and stayed with the circle theme but pretty much went my own way beyond that.
"You Make Me Oh So Very Happy"
Supply List - Patterned Paper: K&Company, Pink Paislee, Making Memories, DCWV, BoBunny, My Mind's Eye; Ink: ColorBox Chalk Ink, StazOn; Pearls: Queen & Co.; Stamp: Studio G; Pop Dots: EK Success; Other: White Cardstock
This card is an easy one to put together and I used mostly scraps from my stash. For the sun rays I cut strips of patterned paper and folded them in half. I used four different designs of patterned paper and two different sized strips.
